Northampton County Historical & Genealogical Society Purchases Easton’s 1753 Bachmann Publick House for $1

The Bachmann Publick House, Easton’s [Pennsylvania] first courtroom and possibly the city’s oldest building, Lafayette College plans to incorporate porgrams including community outreach programs and academic courses that require students to get involved in the community at the Bachmann Publick House at Second and Northampton Streets in Easton. In a vote that followed years of negotiations, council agreed to sell the 1753 building to the Northampton County Historical and Genealogical Society for $1. The society might eventually reopen some historic displays in parts of the stone landmark at Second and Northampton streets, but for now the deal calls for the organization to lease much of the building to Lafayette College, which is to use it for student programs.

”Congratulations! Take good care of it, please,” council President Ann McHale told the society’s leaders after the 6-3 vote.
