George Abel Named Oneida County History Center Volunteer of the Year

Utica resident George Abel has been selected as the Oneida County History Center Volunteer of the Year for 2018.

Born in Utica and raised in Colemans Mills, Abel, 78, attended school in Oriskany where he loved studying history…

After retirement, Abel began volunteering for the history center, where he has been the bookstore manager for 13 years…

He also loves to research genealogy, enjoys reading, is involved with the First Presbyterian Church and practices marquetry — inlaid work made from small pieces of variously colored wood or other materials.
