R.I.P. – Charles Edward Hughes 1923-2018

Charles Edward Hughes, 95, of Connersville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Fayette Regional Health…

Charles retired from Stant Mfg. after 61 years. He was a past president for the Historic Connersville Blue and Gray Civil War Round Table, and he also belonged to the Indianapolis Civil War Round Table, Sons of the Veterans of the Civil War, American Legion, VFW, and Amvets. He was also a member and past president of Kiwanis. He served on the City Cemetery Board for 32 years; putting flags on veterans’ graves every year. In 2014, he was honored with a bench in the city cemetery for his efforts to maintain veterans’ graves for 30 years. Charles was a member of Historic Connersville and enjoyed sharing Connersville history with anyone who would listen. He was named Citizen of the Year in 2015. He was a member of the Fayette County Genealogy Association and the Indiana Historical Society. He also served as Connersville Township Constable for 28 years.
