Volunteer Elizabeth Heath Retires – Leaving a Ward County, Texas Historical Legacy

On January 16, 2009, Elizabeth Heath was presented with a plaque of appreciation for her many years of voluntary service to Ward County. Heath is a 50-year resident of Elizabeth Heath - Courtesy of the Mudville NewsMonahans, Texas and founder of the Ward County Archives in the Ward County Convention Center in Monahans.

Years ago, Elizabeth requested and got space for the Ward County Archives within the Ward County Convention Center being planned at the time. The Ward County Genealogical Society met there regularly, purchased books, microfilmed census records and published the periodical, The Ward County Heritage.

Heath trained Donnita Barber, a volunteer at both the Archives and the Million Barrel Museum, to serve as her replacement as the Ward County Archives director on Jan. 1, as voted in by the commissioners’ court as a salaried employee.
