Stories & Photos Needed for Documentary about Weed, California’s Black Community

Filmmaker Mark Oliver and retired Weed teacher James Langford are making a documentary film about the history of Weed 1901Weed’s Black community.

The film, which has a working title of “From the Quarters to Lincoln Heights,” was one of eight projects out of 200 chosen for a California Council for the Humanities Story Fund Grant.

“I became aware of the fact that the story behind the African American population in Weed had not been covered,” said Oliver, noting his original inspiration for the film.

  1. Was the Documentary to explore history of Weed’s Black community ever completed. I would love to see it. I had family there at one time and I am trying to locate them.

  2. My grandfather was one of the doctor’s in Weed during the 1920’s & 30’s.
    I would like to obtain a copy of the film as well. Would that be possible?
