The Scots’ Family History Society of Buchan Has New Home

Update – January 21, 2009:

First Minister Alex Salmond officially opened the new Family History Centre on Saturday and he was presented with a scroll of the Salmond family tree that staff had traced back to the 16th century.

The Family History Society of Buchan is the newest Family History Society in Scotland, having been formed in 2008. They now have a new base of operations, in Peterhead, Scotland (the easternmost point on mainland Scotland).

The Family History Society of Buchan has a new base at the Arbuthnot Museum in St Peter Street filled with some of the latest – and oldest – genealogical technology.

It is to be officially launched by First Minister Alex Salmond on Saturday.

The society was formed in 2008, and already boasts members from all over the world.

  1. Hello; I am searching for the origins of the name Bachand; I am sure that it is a new form of Buchan; as I cannot fine any other name as close to Buchan. Could Thomas Buchan have been in Quebec and the French spelling was adopted because of the similar pronouncing of Buchan if spoken in French.. Please reply. Sincerely Jeannine
