We Will Never Forget

It’s the 18th anniversary of 9/11. And I will say once again that “we will never forget.” Eighteen years ago this morning, Patty and I were awakened while sleeping in a Union Gap, Washington hotel room by our friend, Janet Smith. She just told me to “turn on your television.” The attack on the United States by radical Islamic terrorists that morning changed our lives. Thousands were murdered, and the rest of us quickly realized that things were never to be the same again.

However, it’s now 2019, and I am concerned. No young people under 18 were alive when the attack took place – I’m writing about young folks through typical high-school age. For them it may be just another bit of history. So it’s up to the rest of us to make sure that they understand what happened that day – making sure that it never happens again – and keeping the memories of the victims and heroes alive. And for all those who died that day, I say again… “We will never forget.”
