The Baxter County Historical & Genealogical Society to Attempt Sale of the Old Hospital that Housed the Baxter County Heritage Museum

Rollins Hospital Museum

The Baxter County [Arkansas] Historical & Genealogical Society voted a few months ago to list the historic Rollins Hospital building for sale, said Jennifer Baker, president of the historical and genealogical society. The group plans to meet this month and likely will choose a real estate company to list the building, she said.

The building at 107 E. Main St. had housed the Baxter County Heritage Museum until it closed last year due to tornado damage. Historical society officials said the tornado damaged the building’s roof and they discovered other deterioration and water damage in the false ceiling and floors. Exterior repairs were estimated to cost $30,000, and interior damage was estimated to cost another several thousand dollars, society officials said.

The historical society already moved its archives to the top floor of the County Services Building at East Sixth and Church streets. The archives are used by genealogical and historical researchers and houses historical documents and records, as well as old photographs and other items.
