Obama’s Pilgrim Roots

President-elect Obama is a 13th-generation descendant of oneobama of the Plymouth colony’s earliest settlers, Thomas Blossom. So is Obama’s very distant cousin, George W. Bush. Thomas Blossom did not arrive in America in 1620, because he was aboard the Speedwell, which sprang a leak (in fact – lots of them), and went back to Europe.

Blossom and his wife, Anne, came to America nine years later from the Dutch city of Leiden on the Mayflower. Hmm – no, not that Mayflower.

You’ll find a good article about Thomas and Anne Blossom at the NEHGS website.

  1. Can I subscribe to Leland’s Genealogy Blog and have it appear in my inbox? How do I do that? I see the RSS subscription info, but that won’t meet my needs. Thank you.

  2. My technical expertise in this area is lacking. I’m using WordPress to produce the blog – along with various widgets and plugins. The RSS feed as it’s currently configured was part of a sidebar widget that is working well in most cases. Thus far, I haven’t come up with a method of automatically sending the blog out so that it can show up in a reader’s email box. Any comments by readers who might better understand what can be done would be appreciated. I know it can be done, as I subscribe to one blog that is available both online and into my email inbox.
