Ancestry’s Subscriber Base Up 10% with an 18% Revenue Growth in 2008

We may be in a recession, but looking at the Generations Network numbers, you certainly wouldn’t know it. CEO Tim Sullivan did an interview with The tgnlogoIndustry Standard on Tuesday, and in that interview he disclosed that their subscriber base grew over 10% in 2008, and that revenue rose 18%.

According to Sullivan, the Generations Network companies now have about 950,000 subscribers worldwide, as compared to 825,000 in January 2008. 2008 revenue totalled $195 million, and earnings (before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) was “a little bit north of $60 million.”

Not bad… This tells me that despite a lousy economy, folks still want to search their for their ancestry. Of course, Ancestry.com has been doing the right things of late, like posting data that we all want, and then advertising on television like we’ve never seen a genealogy-related company do before.
