Roof Collapse at Randolph County Genealogical Society

Accumulations of snow and ice have damaged a Chester, Illinois, landmark, the First Bank building at 600 State Street, built about 1900. It seems that the 23,500 square ft. three-story building sustained damage to its roof from heavy accumulations of snow and ice.

The Randolph County Genealogical Society’s office on the third floor of the building contains “tons of records of the history of Randolph County and genealogical information and over 1,000 books.” However, it looks like the interior of the building and it’s contents were not unduly damaged.

Read all about it in the February 5, 2009 edition of the Southern.com.
