There’s an App for the SCGS Jamboree!

April 22, 2011 – BURBANK, CA – Are you counting calories? There’s an app for that. Do you want to take in a movie? There’s an app for that. Do you want to play a silly game with green pigs and angry birds? There’s an app for that, too. And now,

The Southern California Genealogical Society is thrilled to announce that an interactive smartphone application has been developed for Jamboree 2011.

The app is available for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, and any other smartphone that has web-enabled browser capability.

A mobile app is cutting-edge technology for any industry conference or trade show. The Jamboree app is the first such mobile application ever developed for use at a genealogical and family history event. It is an extension of the growth of technology to support the search for ancestors, and members of our Jamboree family will be the first organizations to take advantage of this new method of communication.

The app is being developed by Core-Apps, LLC. Core-Apps has developed over 200 mobile applications, including such conferences as the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Information Included in the App
You will find the app content to be useful before and after Jamboree, as well as during the conference. In fact, the app will be available for use at any time within the next 12 months. You can:

  • Connect with your friends and share the app with others
  • Review lecture sessions and add them to your personal calendar
  • Learn about the speakers by reading pages with their bios and contact info
  • Search for exhibitors and find them on the trade show floor map
  • Download exhibitor brochures, syllabus articles, and other documents
  • Receive updates about both scheduled or informal or “unconference” activities
  • Follow or join in on the Twitter feed (#SCGS11)
  • Read posts made by bloggers attending Jamboree
  • Share your photos and see photos taken by others
  • Find Burbank and Los Angeles services and destination spots
  • Refer to venue maps to locate meeting rooms and hotel services
  • And more!

It’s a Snap to Download the App

For all other phone types (including Android, BlackBerry and all other web browser-enabled phones): While on your smartphone, point your mobile browser to http://m.core-apps.com/scgs2011

If you don’t have a smartphone but want to take a look at the app, just click on the link http://m.core-apps.com/scgs2011 and poke around.

Marketing and Advertising Opportunities
Early next week, our exhibitors, sponsors, speakers and syllabus advertisers will receive information on ways to participate in the app. We will send a special announcement to many members of the Jamboree family. If you do not receive an email by Wednesday, April 27, please send a note to leo.myers44@gmail.com so we can get one out to you. The email will have the subject line “Wanted: Jamboree App Partners.”

Jamboree – A Tech Step Ahead
We hope that you will be blown away by the coolness of this app and hope that you will help share the word throughout the genealogy community. We will be constantly revising and updating the information before, during and after Jamboree.

If you think of any information that you would like to see added to the app, please let us know. We want to make this the most valuable conference tool possible.

A Huge Thank You . . .
. . . goes to Ancestry.com, Diamond Sponsor, for their vision and continued support of the Southern California Genealogical Society by funding the development of the Jamboree App.

  1. Leland, thanks so much for helping us get the word out about our App. We are so excited about the app and hope that everyone will find it valuable now, as we ramp up toward the weekend, as well as at Jamboree. I love the feature that lets me add events to my own personal calendar, so I get updates and reminders. It will definitely help me keep organized and in the right place at the right time.
