Salt Lake Christmas Tour Week Peek EXTRA!

Well, I flunked my pre-op EKG so I’ve not yet had my hip surgery; having a fancy nuclear treadmill today. Just want all of this DONE! Surgery is rescheduled for Oct 3rd. But (bright spot) I’m just back from Penticton, BC, where we were attending the wedding of our son Timothy to JaneWynne. She is a lovely person and first-generation Canadian. Her parents were born in China, met and married in Hong Kong and emigrated to Vancouver, BC, where they now live and where JaneWynne was born. I cannot wait to learn some about her family history. The wedding venue was on Lake Okanogan and after the outdoor ceremony, it rained for five minutes and then the most gorgeous double and complete-arch rainbow came out! We took that as a blessing from heaven.

In the midst of their happiness, both kids remembered and recognized that both sets of their parents were marking their 50th anniversary. Our kiddos presented us with a gorgeous Pendleton bedspread/blanket. I am blessed with thoughtful wonderful kids!

Sorry to run on so about me but “me” is what the last six weeks has been for me……… now I’m ready to start refining the details of our Double-Triple Fantastic Annual Salt Lake Christmas Tour, coming up in ten short weeks!! Ten weeks!!

  1. Congrats on the wedding. We have 2 grandchildren getting married in Oct.
Good luck on your surgery. Just had my other cataract removed.
Still a little blurry, but should be good for December. Joan

  2. Donna…..just returned from a fantastic trip to Boise, Idaho and Halfway, Oregon. Visited cousins, found old family photos I have never seen before, (and I’m sure with ancestor guidance was able to identify some of the photos. There were many of my mother which was so special for me. A side trip to Halfway, Oregon to visit an aunt found myself, my sister and 3 cousins talking nonstop from Boise to Halfway. That is a 6 hour round trip. Was able to point out landmarks along the way that were important to our ancestors such as houses, homestead claims and a split rail fence that was built by our grandfather. My sister has wanted some of those rails for years! Well they were replacing and repairing this fence as an Eagle Scout project and some of the badly deteriorated rails were discarded on the ground. When we stopped at the local church the man mowing the lawn asked where we were from. So we told him and also told him we were visiting locations relevant to our family along the way. He advised us that his son was rebuilding the fence as his Eagle Scout project and he needs some historical facts to complete his report. I’m delighted to say I am working with him.

Now imagine this. My sister drives a Prius and we were in her car for our trip back to our homes. There is no way a 10 foot split rail would have fit in her car. But she did come home with splinters of the rails that she found on the ground and we are determined to revisit with a truck next time!

Congratulations on your son’s marriage and may you recover quickly from your pending surgery. Hope you passed your second EKG with flying colors and take care.

  3. Donna, Just returned from FGS which was a great experience. Last time we were at FGS was 9/11/2001 in the Quad Cities.

At the end of this month, we will be going to a Czech Conference in St. Louis, MO. Not doing Czech research or classes but rather looking to early history on Skip’s Dickman family. 1847-1850. Hope we can find some-thing good for his first marriage and death of his wife/child abt. 1849. Have the rest of the pieces after 1850 pretty much anyway.

New event in our life: Radar, a 4 1/2 mos. old Corgi pup!
He’s wonderful but it is interesting having a baby again in our care 24/7/365. Love it tho’.

Congratulations on the marriage of your son and new daughter-in-law. Best wishes for their long and happy life together.
Hope that EKG went well and that your hip replacement goes well. You probably won’t enjoy the P.T. afterwards very much. We do get the tag “physical terrorists” for a reason you know. However, after saying that – do what they tell you to do and when! It works much better than way. Can’t wait to see you all again the first full week in Dec. on the Tour.
