Salt Lake Christmas Tour Week Peek #27

This is Leland delivering a Civil War records presentation at the Southern California Jamboree last weekend………. wouldn’t we also like to see him in his “Union” cap???

Where does time go……..how fast time flies……… do we realize that 2011 is about ONE HALF over already? And what do we have to show for this large amount of time passed? One of my goals for 2011 was to make time for some personal research and that I have done……….not as much as I would have liked, but some. Connected with a CARR cousin and have been sharing with him. But mostly I have been helping others and I really do enjoy that as much as doing my own. A friend came out today for some plant starts from my garden and we got to talking and she’d never done any family history research so we went into my office, I pulled up Ancestry, and BINGO! We found her grandfather on the World War I draft registrations and her family in the 1910 and 1920 censuses. I think she’s hooked! “I just never knew this kind of stuff was out there,” she told me. Well, dear friend, it is! Answers do abound.

Dick Eastman, in his EOGN Blog today, told about a really easy way to stay current. (1) Click to http://desktop.google.com and download Google Desktop> (2) It will likely appear on the border of your screen. (3) Look for the little box showing an orange-colored symbol. This is the subscription-to-blogs symbol/button. (4) As things are posted to the blog-o-sphere, you’ll get the notification or the headlines here. (5) When you hover your mouse over this little box, the one with the orange symbol, a little grayish box will appear with 3 symbols….. two arrows left, a solid arrow down and an “x”. Click on the middle one, the solid little down arrow. This will bring up a screen where you can enter the address for any blog you want to follow………this blog, my blog, etc.

Please do try this and let me know if you had good luck and find the news bits worth reading. I surely think so for I like to know what’s going on……….. and the TV or mail or daily paper will not give me the genealogy news I crave!

Donna, aka Mother Hen, until next week.

Do you want to keep in the loop of knowing what is going on with genealogy these days? Are you willing to check for this new information at least weekly? Don’t you read the DAILY paper and watch the DAILY news on TV? And check your mailbox DAILY for mail? So why not check for genealogy news in the place and in the way it comes….. on the Internet??
