The New “Highland Archive & Registration Centre” Opens in Inverness, Scotland

Highland Archive The new Highland Archive and Registration Centre opened for business in Inverness on Monday. In addition to a dedicated family history centre, the £10.5 million centre includes an archive conservation unit, a ceremony suite and modern office accommodations.

Atmospheric and environmental controls have been installed to safeguard the storage of parchment, paper and records in other formats allowing the return of documents to an archives in the Highlands, documents that are presently stored in Edinburgh.

The Highland Archive and Registration Centre holds the records for the former county councils of Cromarty, Inverness-shire, Nairnshire, Sutherland, Ross & the 11 burghs within these former counties.
