Ancestry.com & “Who Do You Think You Are?”

John D. Reid, at Anglo-Celtic Connections, wrote a good blog about Ancestry – and it’s affiliations with “Who Do You Think You Are?” Following is a teaser.

Ancestry.com makes considerable reference to the TV program “Who Do You Think You Are?” in their draft IPO prospectus released on Monday.

Ancestry has a record of success with the program. “Our subscriber additions were 569,851 in 2006, principally driven by the airing of “Who Do You Think You Are?” in the United Kingdom …”

They indicate they have already made commitments to programs in the US series . “… we have purchased product integration in the television show “Who Do You Think You Are?” in the United States, but we may only at a later date, or never, experience an increase in revenue or brand awareness as a result of such expenditures.”

  1. I’ve heard that this is a great TV show, but I haven’t watched it yet as it is not yet syndicated in the USA (to my knowledge). I do have satellite though. Leland, how do you view this show? Is it on satellite in the USA? Thank you!

  2. Jeff,
I don’t know that it’s available in the USA at all. The Brits and Aussies have versions of it – but the American version has yet to become a reality. If there’s a way for the American audience to see the British “Who Do You Think You Are” without traveling across the Atlantic, I’d certainly welcome comments…

  3. Leland,
The first four BBC “Who Do You Think You Are?” series are now available as in-expensive DVD sets from Amazon.co.uk. Of course they are region 3 (UK and Europe) DVDs, but most newer DVD players and laptops here in the U.S. play them.

I own the complete set and frequently loan them to genealogy geeks. They are EXCELLENT beyond words!

The U.S. series is also produced by Wall to Wall and hopefully will be of similar quality.
