R.I.P. Gary M Smith

Diana Smith has posted that her husband, and a great friend to all genealogists, has passed away. Gary and Diana were a driving force behind the Genealogical Speakers Guild and the International Society of Family History Writers and Editors (ISFHWE). Both Gary and Diana have been great friends and supporters of the efforts that Patty and I have made over the years. I will miss Gary’s words of encouragement. Rest in Peace, Gary…

The following is from Diana’s post:

“I have very sad news. My best friend and beloved husband, Gary M Smith, passed away Wednesday [Feb. 7, 2018] afternoon. He was in the hospital and died peacefully.

“Some of you may have suspected that something was wrong. He had been in hospitals and rehab for 6 months (since August 6). It has been stressful, obviously. It was his choice to not share his condition.

“He was officially diagnosed in August with congestive heart failure. I suspect it was actually longer. Last week his lungs became involved and declined rapidly. He’s at rest now.”
