Mary Penner Named as Managing Editor of APGQ

Association of Professional Genealogists Names Mary Penner Managing Editor of its Quarterly Magazine

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo., 10 August 2016 – The Association of Professional Genealogists (APG®) has selected Mary Penner of Tijeras, New Mexico, as managing editor of its quarterly publication, Association of Professional Genealogists Quarterly (APGQ). APGQ has served the genealogy community since 1979 with staff-written and contributed articles covering all aspects of the profession.

Mary Penner is an award-winning author, with 14 years of professional writing experience. She has authored articles for genealogical publications, penned a genealogy column for the Albuquerque Tribune, and wrote and published a full-length biography, Just Do it, Crazy or Not: One Man’s Bold Life of Taking Chances and Surviving it All. She owns Penner Research Services, LLC, and publishing company Manzano Alley Press, LLC. In addition to writing, Penner is a freelance editor and edits the scholarly journal of the New Mexico Genealogical Society, The New Mexico Genealogist. She taught English on the high school and college levels for many years.

Her exemplary service resulted in a Certificate of Appreciation Award in 2012 while her personal commitment and outstanding service to APG resulted in her being honored with the Grahame T. Smallwood Jr Award of Merit in 2013. We are excited about her willingness to continue serving APG in this new role.”

As managing editor, Penner will be responsible for the overall production of the APGQ, in keeping with the magazine’s high-quality style and compelling content. “Genealogy professionals look to the APGQ for articles that help with growing their businesses,” said Penner. “As managing editor, my approach will be to support this mission for readers and to foster a collaborative, supportive environment for contributing writers.
