President Barack Obama

DUBLIN, Jan. 27, 2011 — /PRNewswire/ — US President Barack Obama is set to become one of the first “Irish-Americans” to receive a Certificate of Irish Heritage in recognition of his Irish ancestry. The certificate will be officially awarded to President Obama on March 17th, to mark the beginning of the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations for 2011.

It is estimated that up to 70 million people worldwide claim Irish Heritage, with a significant number of those living in the United States. The Certificate of Irish Heritage, open to people of Irish ancestry, has been created to recognize people’s Irish Heritage and to encourage those with Irish roots to explore the history and tradition associated with their own personal heritage.
