Genealogical Treasures Found in the Grand Forks Room

Following is an excerpt from an article in the August 7, 2010 edition of the Grand Forks Herald about what can be found in the Grand Forks Room in the Grand Forks North Dakota Public Library.

Would you like to see a 1975 Grand Forks city atlas? Do you have any interest in the yearbook from Central High School in 1911?

If so, you can find this information and much more in the Grand Forks Room of the city library. This is a quiet, glassed-in room near the reference desk where people can browse through records and also find copies of books written by local authors.

… There are cemetery books from more than 20 North Dakota counties and from four Minnesota counties. There are hard copies of most Grand Forks City Directories from 1896 to this year. The directories also are available on microfiche from 1882 to 1977.

The Grand Forks Room has become a repository for Grand Forks city yearbooks, and the librarians would welcome donations of yearbooks from patrons. As it is, there are yearbooks for Central High School from 1911, 1920 to 1932, 1934 to 1936 and on to 1999. There are Red River yearbooks from 1971 to 1996, with some missing. The library also has Dacotah yearbooks from UND for the years 1904 to 1971, with a few missing.
