State Insurance Examiners Check Out Bankrupt Birmingham Cemetery

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – The Alabama Department of Insurance is investigating the sudden closing of George Washington Carver Memorial Gardens in Birmingham.

State insurance examiners checked inventory and looked into records at the cemetery’s office Thursday…

The cemetery’s owner filed for bankruptcy in October after unexpectedly closing the cemetery in September.

Gov. Robert Bentley has also spoken out on the closing, asking the courts to allow families to continue to visit the cemetery during bankrupcty proceedings. He has even offered to raise money to repair the cemetery’s gates and fencing.
