The following was received from Penny McBride, with the San Diego Genealogical Society:
Discover your family history in downtown San Diego! The San Diego Genealogical Society is pleased to announce the grand opening of the combined genealogical research collections of the San Diego Central Public Library and the San Diego Genealogical Society. With these merged collections the new Central Library contains the largest genealogical collection in San Diego County and one of the best in Southern California.
Founded in 1946, the San Diego Genealogical Society’s research collection began as a circulating collection of two books plus a few manuscripts and pamphlets exchanged at Society meetings. The collection grew to include more than 12,000 books, CDs, microfiche records and genealogical periodicals. Now, with the combined collection of the old San Diego City Public Library (half of which was inaccessible in the basement) family history researchers will value and cherish the new facility for years to come.
Located at Park Boulevard and J Street, just east of Petco Park (home of Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres), downtown San Diego’s new dome-topped icon, opening on September 28th, is accessible by the San Diego Trolley and offers underground parking. Close to Balboa Park museums, the world famous San Diego Zoo, the historic Gaslamp District and San Diego Harbor genealogists will now make San Diego a destination stop for fun, relaxation and family history research.
I interested in the library resources for my ancestry, how do I get started?
