FamilySearch U.S. and Canadian Vital Records Database Updates as of 6 May 2013

The following U.S.A. & Canadian vital-records oriented databases have been recently added or updated at FamilySearch.org. This blog updates all five of the Online Database groups (see below) through 6 May 2013 [updated from 11 April 2013].

THE FOLLOWING DATABASES WERE RECENTLY POSTED OR UPDATED AT FAMILYSEARCH.ORG:

[NEW] Alabama, Estate Files, 1830-1976 – Indexed and Imaged Records – Index and images of estate files created by the probate courts of various Alabama counties. Probates were generally recorded in the county of residence. This collection covers probate records created 1830-1976, but the content and time period of the records will vary by county. Files from Madison, Monroe and Talladega counties have not been indexed, but are arranged in alphabetical order by the deceased’s name. Additional records may be added to this collection. Check the wiki or browse the collection to determine current coverage; 25,297records and 2,170,364 images as of 13 April 2013.

[NEW] Vermont, Addison County and District Probate Files, 1845-1915 – Imaged Records – Probate estate files of the Addison District located at Administrator Services, Montpelier, Vermont; 54,451 images as of 13 April 2013.

Ohio, Probate Records, 1789-1996Browsable Images – Probate records and estate files from county courthouses in Ohio. The content and time period varies by county; 7,000,448 images as of April 13, 2013 up 4,1313 images since 27 September 2012.

Illinois, Chicago Catholic Church Records, 1833-1925Images of Catholic church records from the Bishop of Chicago. Some indexes go beyond 1925. Includes Baptisms, Communions. Marriages, and Deaths from 171 Churches; 295,723 images as of 13 April 2013 – up 116,269images since 9 September 2011.

[NEW] Indiana, Ripley, Osgood, Greendale Cemetery Records – 1861-2007 – Imaged Records – Records from the Greendale Cemetery Association in Osgood, Indiana. The collection includes burial records, cemetery plots, and lists of veterans; 3,977 images as of 16 April 1013.

North Carolina Estate Files 1663-1979Imaged Records – Index and images of estate files from North Carolina counties. The originals were filmed at the North Carolina Department of Archives and History. The estate records contain loose papers relating to the settlement of estates including such matters as provision for heirs including minor children as well as distribution of funds, land and property, including slaves. This project was indexed in partnership with the North Carolina Genealogical Society and Library; 152,201  records and 3,740,879 images as of 21 January 2013 – 13,302 records and 369,558 images since 21 January 2013.

Indiana Marriages 1811-1959 – Indexed in partnership with the Indiana Genealogical Society. Name index of marriages recorded in the Indiana Territory and in the State of Indiana between 1811 and 1959. This collection includes searchable index data for marriage returns and licenses from the following counties: Adams, Allen, Bartholomew, Benton, Blackford, Boone, Brown, Carroll, Clark, Clay, Daviess, Dearborn, Decatur, De Kalb, Delaware, Dubois, Elkhart, Fayette, Floyd, Fountain, Franklin, Fulton, Gibson, Hamilton, Harrison, Hendricks, Henry, Huntington, Jackson, Jay, Jefferson, Jennings, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Lake, Lawrence, Marshall, Ohio, Owen, Rush, and Sullivan. Microfilm copies of original records are available at the Family History Library and at family history centers. Currently this collection is 54% complete. Additional records will be added as they are completed; 2,272,832 records and 1,761,686 images as of 25 April 2013 – up 88,253 records and 29,951 images since 26 January 2013.

[NEW] Michigan, Death Certificates, 1921-1952 – Indexed Records – Index of death records from the Michigan Department of Community Health, Division for Vital Records and Health Statistics in Lansing; 1,681,256 records as of 29 April 2013.

BillionGraves Index – Indexed Records – Name index of burial records courtesy of BillionGraves which is an expansive family history database of records and images from the world’s cemeteries, all tagged with GPS locations. Volunteers around the world capture images of headstones in a cemetery and upload them to the site; 3,496,874 records as of 1 May 2013; up 424,305records since 2 April 2013.

New York Queens County Probate Records, 1785-1950Browsable Images – Images of probate records and proceedings from the Queens County Surrogate’s Court in Jamaica, New York; 1,966,836 images as of 5 May 2013 – up 121,873 records since 1 March 2013.

Illinois, Cook County, Maywood Herald Obituary Card Index 1885-2002Indexed and Imaged Records – Images of a surname card index from the Maywood Public Library. The index is largely comprised of obituaries, as well as a list of “Maywoodians” (residents of the city of Maywood), from the “Maywood Herald” newspaper – 61,565 records and 123,515 images as of 5 May 2013 – up 61,461 images since 23 November 2011.

CANADA

Quebec Notarial Records, 1800-1900 – Imaged Records – Images of notarial records arranged by locality, then notary, then time period. This collection is being published as images become available.  This collection contains vital records including births, marriages, deaths, and a card index. Original records are in the Office of Civil Registry, Waigani, NCD Papua New Guinea; 4,077,685 images as of 1 May 2013 – up 463,120 images since 5 April 2013.
