My Veterans’ Day

This being Veterans’ Day, I think that it’s a good time to remember just a few of my ancestors who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today. My great grandfather, Henry Canfield (1831-1866) served from Michigan throughout the Civil War. He died in the service and is buried in the Fort Douglas post cemetery in Salt Lake City. His grandfather, my third great grandfather, Gold (Gould) Canfield (1870-1814) died while serving in the War of 1812 and was buried in Manhattan, New York. My third great grandfather Ezekial Crane (d. 1803) served in the Revolutionary War from New Jersey. He marched through New York with Sullivan’s Army. He died when shot by an Indian after he settled in what is now Seneca County, New York. My fourth great grandfather, Timothy Titus (1732-1783) served in the Revolutionary War from New York. My fourth great grandfather, James Canfield (1752-1830) also served in the Revolutionary War from New York. Finally, my fourth great grandfather, Paul Keeler, Jr. (1756-1812) fought in the Revolutionary War from Connecticut. I give tribute to these, my forebears, who fought for their country.
