New & Updated Canadian Vital Records Posted at FamilySearch.org

The following Canadian vital-records oriented databases have been added or updated at FamilySearch.org since my last posting made January 9.

We’ve also updated all five of the GenealogyBlog Online Database Links Files.

NEW DATABASE British Columbia, Victoria Times Birth, Marriage and Death notices, 1901-1939Imaged Records – Newspaper clippings pasted onto cards and arranged chronologically. Includes the date (year, month, day) and page number on each card. The newspaper was variously known as the Victoria Times, Victoria Weekly Times, and Victoria Daily Times – 111,817 images as of 5 June 2012.

NEW DATABASE British Columbia, Wills, 1861-1981Imaged Records – Images of will indexes and wills. Although the index spans 1861-1981 this collection contains wills for 1861-1939. Central will registry maintained by the Department of the Attorney General for all wills probated in the province of British Columbia. The number for each will is written in the upper right-hand corner of the first page of the will in small script. Some wills are missing from the collection. The will numbers are listed in the indexes under the “Remarks” column, and NOT the “Wills” column. Some letters of the alphabet are continued at the end of the index volume. The index to these wills is also the index to the Victoria probate registry district records – 127,172 records as of 22 June 2012.

NEW DATABASE Manitoba Probate Records 1871-1930Imaged Records – Images of estate files, application books and indexes. Some indexes go as late as 1970 – 802,992 images as of 22 March 2012.

NEW DATABASE New Brunswick, Late Registration of Births 1810-1899Imaged Records – Typed extracts of late registration. Records are arranged alphabetically for the entire year range – 24,015 images as of 16 Feb 2012. From New Brunswick Vital Statistics Branch. New Brunswick provincial returns of births and late registration. Provincial Archives of New Brunswick, Fredericton, New Brunswick.

NEW DATABASE New Brunswick Provincial Returns of Marriages 1887-1919Imaged Records – The returns of marriages are arranged alphabetically within each year by surname of the groom. New Brunswick instituted registration for all vital statistics in January of 1888. There are very few returns for 1887 – 141,775 images as of 5 June 2012.

NEW DATABASE New Brunswick Provincial Returns of Marriages and Late Registrations, 1920-1950Imaged Records – Provincial returns of marriages, 1920-1950, and late registration of marriages, 1920-1945 – 119,291 images as of 5 June 2012.

NEW DATABASE New Brunswick, Marriage Registers, 1789-1889Imaged Records – Marriage registers containing transcriptions from church records submitted by various denominations. Most volumes are indexed – 7,459 images as of 11 June 2012.

Nova Scotia Births and Baptisms, 1702-1896– Index to selected Nova Scotia births and baptisms. Only a few localities are included and the time period varies by locality – This collection contains 130,108 records as of 15 March 2012 – up 4,317 records since 27 April 2010.

Nova Scotia Marriages, 1711-1909 – Index to selected Nova Scotia marriages. Only a few localities are included and the time period varies by locality. This collection contains 37,261 records as of 10 March 2012 – up 1007 records since 27 April 2010.

NEW DATABASE Nova Scotia, Church Records 1720-2001Imaged Records – Parish registers of baptisms, marriages, deaths and other records for some Catholic and Church of England in Canada parishes from Nova Scotia – 16,188 images as of 6 Feb 2012.

NEW DATABASE Ontario, Roman Catholic Church Records, 1760-1923Imaged Records – Baptisms, marriages, deaths and other records from several Roman Catholic parishes in the province of Ontario, Canada. This collection covers church records created 1760-1923, but the content and time period of the records will vary by parish – 123,534 images as of 18 January 2012.

NEW DATABASE Quebec, Non-Catholic Parish Register 1763-1967Imaged Records – Registers of baptisms, marriages, deaths and other records from various non-Catholic denominations and parishes. Date coverage varies from parish to parish – 278,518 images as of 17 May 2012.

Saskatchewan, Probate Estate Files 1887-1931 – Index and images of estate files from Saskatchewan judicial districts. The estate records contain loose papers relating to the settlement of estates including such matters as provision for heirs including minor children as well as distribution of funds, land and property. This project was indexed in partnership with the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society – 35,000 indexed records and 1,903,391 images as of 25 June 2012 – up 312,198 images since 10 January 2012.

Canada Births and Baptisms, 1661-1959 – Name index to birth and baptism records from Canada. Microfilm copies of these records are available at the Family History Library and Family History Centers. This set contains 1,534,515 records as of 22 March 2012 – up 5,426 records since 21 June 2011.
